EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Sodus Bay Junior Sailing Association has named Laurie Alverio to be its first year-round Executive Director.

Laurie will oversee the administration of SBJSA’s existing programs including summer youth programs, adult instruction, community boating, spring and fall sailing programs for area middle and high school students and the SBJSA travel race team. Laurie will be actively involved in fundraising activities and our sailorship fund, marketing communications, community outreach, and other efforts to grow and enhance SBJSA’s programs and participation

With over 25 years of experience working in both for-profit and not-for-profit roles, much of her non-profit experience comes from working with youth and older adults, including in Wayne and surrounding Counties.

Laurie will be the public face of SBJSA, reaching out to media, school districts, donors, area sailing programs, community organizations and SBJSA members to grow enrollment and expand programs. She will oversee all aspects of communications, from website content and social media presence to external relations. She will work with our volunteer network to expand participation of parents and other adult volunteers and develop fundraising plans to expand donor and grant-based funding.

Ultimately, Laurie will work with the Board of Directors, staff and SBJSA members to provide strategic guidance for SBJSA’s long range planning process to enhance SBJSA’s mission and reputation.

A longtime resident of the Sodus area, Laurie is a graduate of Sodus Central Schools. She holds a bachelor’s degree from St. John Fisher College and a master's degree in organizational leadership from Medaille College.

Laurie and her family split their time between Sodus and Port Bay.  She enjoys spending time on the water and with her three dogs. We look forward to welcoming Laurie into the SBJSA family.
