The Community Boating Center at SBJSA can be a great resource for youth, adults and area camp counselors to gain access to required boating certifications and training. SBJSA has the facilities and watercraft that can go beyond the minimal safe boating requirements for New York State. Online certification courses can only go so far in the preparation of young powerboaters. Hands on maneuvering and on the water boat handling go a long way toward boater confidence and skill development.

SBJSA offers required courses for those individuals that need specific sailing and powerboating certifications in order to hold a coaching or instructor position in many of the regional summer camps that have boating activities, including SBJSA. Coursework and syllabus are provided through US Powerboating, part of the US Sailing (USSA) organization.

Contact SBJSA to discuss your needs for facilities, instructors, and equipment. We can tailor a program for you. In 2020, we’ll be offering a 7 hr basic Powerboat Handling course for up to six (6) adult Community Boating members over a 2-day period, August 15-16, 2020. Please look for details and registration information on our CB Adult Instruction page, under the Community Boating menu header at the top of our homepage. Register early to claim your spot in the class!

SBJSA is committed to making the joys of sailing & other watersports available to everyone, building lifelong boaters & fostering responsible eco-awareness & stewardship of our natural resource, Great Sodus Bay on Lake Ontario.

Fun activities on the water are at the core of our educational/recreational programs & our community partnerships. Reaching out to both locals & visitors, including the underserved, we promote teamwork, leadership, community spirit, & healthy lives.
