COLLEGIATE SAILING

With our fleet that includes (12) identical and well maintained C-420 sailboats, as well as over a dozen Lasers in very good condition and all 3 rig sizes available, SBJSA offers the perfect location and boats for a collegiate sailing team or recognized collegiate club that wishes to practice and improve their sailing skills. In addition, SBJSA also has the resources and capability to host an intercollegiate regatta from mid-April to mid-October.

Currently and for the last several years, SBJSA is the proud host of the collegiate Sailing Club from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). Approximately 30 RIT students utilize our facilities and boats for an 8-week practice season in fall (early Sept to early November) and 6 weeks in the spring (late March to early May) of the academic year. In addition to use of Lasers and 420s, we also make a Boston Whaler available for use as a coach and safety boat. "in early October 2022, SBJSA and RIT co-hosted our first intercollegiate regatta on Sodus Bay. Part of MAISA's fall circuit (Mid-Atlantic Interscholastic Sailing Association), the successful event drew teams from 6 colleges and 3 states. RIT hopes to make SBJSA and Sodus Bay an annual venue for a MAISA fall regatta and planning has already begun for 2023!"

Due to our own staffing limitations that sometimes occur, we’re not always able to provide coaching services during the spring or fall, but we can often offer suggestions about area personnel that can provide coaching capability, if we can’t. If your club or team needs coaching during the summer months, it’s likely we can provide that service.

Please contact SBJSA Executive Director, Laurie Alverio at executive@sbjsa.org to learn more about setting up a collegiate program for your school and the contract framework we utilize for that relationship, including cost.
