During the summer at Sodus Bay Junior Sailing Association, there are a few days set aside especially for parents.
On the Sunday evening prior to the start of each 2 or 3-week camp session, parents are asked to attend a special Parent Orientation meeting where they can meet the Program Director, learn a lot more about the program their child is about to enter and what they’ll learn, hear summaries about some of our key procedures and policies, including fire safety, lost camper and what we do when lightning/stormy weather is imminent or a medical issue arises. We’ll review our recommended clothing and safety gear for campers, key events in the session schedule (including special fun days) and how we handle discipline. It’s also an opportunity to have questions answered about anything on parents’ minds, including how to volunteer to help at SBJSA and what we may need your help with!
The other special event for parents occurs on the last day of each session, when parents are invited to attend camp in the afternoon, celebrate with us during awards given to their campers for completion of their session, etc., see first hand what their child has learned, and talk to the instructors involved about the progress their child made.
Please note that because it’ll occur on the same day as our annual Pancake Breakfast on June 28, 2020, the Parent Orientation meeting for Session 1 on June 28th will be held at 1 pm (instead of the usual 5 pm) so everyone can enjoy pancakes first and then stick around for the meeting!
