Certification
Certification of progress, diploma for course completion, and other awards will be presented at the close of each session on Parents' Day. |
How do I enroll my child in this program?
Simply fill out the enrollment form, return it with payment, medical and emergency forms. Your child will be enrolled in the program on a first-come-first served basis. We will return a postcard or emial to you indicating that your child is enrolled in his on her ( or his/her) chosen session. If the sessions are filled, we will contact you. |
Enrollment Limits
To continue the long tradition of quality instruction and healthy fun, we must limit the enrollment for each session. The racing program will be limited in size and will use a cut off date of June 1st. Please call 315-483-8883 for information about availability in each session. |
Instructors
The SBJSA maintains a low student to instructor ratio. All instructors are US Sailing Level I certified and have current CPR and American Red Cross Life Guard certification. Additionally, our swimming intstructors have American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification. They are specialists in their courses and are carefully selected for experience, reputation, and good judgement. |
Life Jackets/PFD's
Every student is required to wear a Type III life jacket at all times on the water. It is required that each child has his/her own personal life jacket. |

Who is eligible to participate?
Any boys and girls who have completed 3rd grade. Parents of children with special needs should contact the director prior to the program. Membership in a yacht club is not required nor is ownership of a sail or motor boat required. Many of our sailors have no experience with sailing prior to their summer at SBJSA. |

Class Size?
Typically, there are 4-6 students per instructor. Class sizes are limited, so enroll early! |
Where is the SBJSA program held?
The SBJSA property is located on Sodus Bay. It is east of the docks and grounds of the Sodus Bay Yacht, on Clover Street, Sodus Point, NY.directions here |
Program hours
Each session runs from 9:30 A.M. to 4 P.M. We insist that children are not on the grounds prior to or no later than these times as there is no supervision provided. |
Inclement Weather
Water activity is always "weather permitting". The Camp Director is in radio contact with the instructors to notify them of any adverse conditions requiring return to shore. |
What program of instruction is used?
All sailing curriculum is U.S. Sailing Certified Curriculum. All swimming instruction is Red Cross Certified. Adult sailing instruction is also offered. |
What should my child bring to the program?
Each student is required to bring a Type III lifejacket, bathing suit towel, towel and appropriate clothing. The sailors need shoes that are closed toed; Please no sandals. Sneakers which dry quickly or water shoes are recommended. Several changes of clothing are also recommended. Remember it is cooler by the water and the sailors are often wet. Rain gear is necessary for rainy days. Lunch, drinks, and snacks. |

SBJSA Charitable contributions and non cash material goods donations?
SBJSA is a 501C3 charitable corporation chartered by the Department of Education of NYS. As such, all donations are tax deductible. We will also issue letters of donation for gifts of cash or material ( such as boats and boat equipment ). |
