Junior Sailing Program
Instruction is offered for all levels of ability, Level I through Level IV. The Curriculum is designed so that all students learn, practice and improve the skills of good sailing and seamanship. Our Goal is to have all Level I sailors able to sail a boat on their own. We teach with the essentials of "summer fun" in mind with special all camp activities such as beach day, swim across the bay, treasure hunt, and big boat day.

Level I - Optimist sailboats. Sailors learn basic sailing technique, water safety, basic knots, and seamanship.

Level II - Optimist sailboats. Sail instruction concentrates on upwind sailing, tacking, and gybing.

Level III - Laser and JY-15 sailboats. Sailors fine tune boat handling skills and sail adjustment. Single handed and crewed instruction.

Level IV - Laser, JY-15, and J/24 sailboats. Classes focus on spinnaker sailing, navigation skills, cruising and racing.

Red Cross instruction for all levels of swim ability is part of each day at SBJSA. All sail and swim instructors hold current Red Cross Life Guard certification. Parent Orientation is planned for those parents of new students to SBJSA and for all who wish to attend.
